Hello, fellow martial artists and enthusiasts! Master White here, chief instructor at Triumph Martial Arts in Pella, and I’m thrilled to share with you my recent experience at the Carlos Machado Jiu-Jitsu Fall Affiliate training in Dallas, Texas!
This Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training event was nothing short of incredible, and it reinforced a lesson I’ve learned over a lifetime of martial arts: the necessity of continued training.
As a lifelong martial artist, I’ve always believed that learning and improvement are at the core of what we do. Regardless of the martial art you practice, whether it’s Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), Taekwondo, Krav Maga or any other discipline, the journey to mastery is ongoing. Just like a river that keeps flowing, martial artists must keep learning, evolving, and pushing their limits.
The Carlos Machado Jiu-Jitsu Fall Affiliate training event was a perfect example of why continued training is so essential. This extraordinary weekend brought together practitioners from different corners of the world to train with the legendary 8th-degree coral belt, Master Carlos Machado – and his top-level black belts. The agenda for the event was jam-packed with various elements that highlighted the importance of continued training.
- Takedowns for BJJ: One of the standout aspects of this event was the focus on takedowns. In Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, where much emphasis is placed on ground techniques, takedowns are often overlooked. But Carlos Machado and his team understand that an effective takedown game is crucial for BJJ practitioners. They provided valuable insights and hands-on training that will undoubtedly elevate our stand-up game.
- Gi and No-Gi Training: In the world of BJJ, you need to be proficient in both gi and no-gi techniques. This event catered to both aspects, ensuring that we could adapt our skills to different settings. The ability to seamlessly transition between these two styles is a testament to the versatility and depth of knowledge that true martial artists possess.
- Training with Legends: Training alongside Carlos Machado and his top-level black belts was a dream come true. Their expertise, experience, and passion for the sport were palpable. The knowledge they shared and the techniques they taught were priceless. This interaction with some of the best in the world is an opportunity that only comes with continued training and dedication.
- Business Training: In addition to the physical training, there was amazing training to take your business to the next level. Industry experts spoke on business purposes and value, creating customer relationships, simplifying social media for improved results.
But what’s even more important than the specific skills and techniques learned during the event is the reminder it served – that martial arts are a journey without a final destination. The pursuit of perfection is endless, and the desire to improve should be insatiable.
Continued training is the key to staying sharp, mastering your art, and evolving as a martial artist. It’s about honing your existing skills, exploring new techniques, and embracing a growth mindset. This event was a humbling experience that reinforced the idea that there’s always more to learn and room to improve, even for a seasoned practitioner like myself.
As I return to Triumph Martial Arts, I bring back not only new techniques and strategies but also a renewed sense of purpose. I am inspired to keep pushing the boundaries of my knowledge and share the fruits of my learning with our students.
And the best part? We get to do it all over for the Spring Affiliate Training!
