Biography
Mr. Nathan Whitten is a 4th Degree Black Belt in Taekwondo, an ATA Martial Arts Level 3 Certified Instructor, and a Level 3 ATA National Tournament Judge. He has trained in martial arts since 1995 and teaches at Triumph Martial Arts in Urbandale, Iowa.
Mr. Whitten enjoys working with students of all ages and helping them develop confidence, focus, perseverance, and strong martial arts skills. His teaching reflects the discipline, leadership, and personal responsibility he has developed through both martial arts training and military service.
In addition to his accomplishments in Taekwondo, Mr. Whitten is an active-duty Chief Petty Officer in the United States Navy. He currently serves at the Navy recruiting center in Grimes, Iowa.
During his military career, Mr. Whitten served for four years aboard the aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman and completed deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. He has also served in Guam, New Orleans, and Nevada. These experiences have given him valuable insight into leadership, preparation, resilience, teamwork, and performing under pressure.
Mr. Whitten also holds a Ph.D. in History. His academic background, military service, and martial arts experience allow him to bring a thoughtful and well-rounded perspective to teaching. He encourages students to set high standards for themselves, remain accountable, and approach challenges with determination.
Fun Fact: Mr. Whitten is an avid Star Wars fan and collector. His collection reflects his lifelong enthusiasm for the characters, stories, and history of the Star Wars universe.
