Biography

Master Matt White is the co-owner and Chief Instructor of Triumph Martial Arts, serving students and families in Pella and Urbandale, Iowa. He is a 6th Degree Black Belt in Taekwondo and an ATA Martial Arts Master Instructor with more than 40 years of martial arts experience.

In addition to his extensive Taekwondo training, Master White holds a 4th Dan Black Belt in Krav Maga and is a Level 5 Senior Instructor under Master Alain Cohen. He also holds a Purple Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Master Carlos Machado. His diverse background allows him to help students develop confidence, fitness, focus, and practical skills to stay safe.

Master White began his martial arts training in 1984 under Grand Master Jung in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He transitioned to ATA Martial Arts in 1997 and earned his 1st Degree Black Belt in 1998. Throughout his competitive career, he earned several ATA State Championship titles and Top Ten honors.

His dedication to martial arts and instruction has also been recognized with numerous awards, including ATA Instructor of the Year, ATA Black Belt of the Year, an ATA Appreciation Award, and a Lifetime Achievement Award.

In 2003, Master White and his wife, Mrs. Chris White, took over the ATA Martial Arts club in Pella. Over the years, they have operated martial arts schools in Pella, Newton, Pleasant Hill, Clive, and Urbandale. Today, they lead Triumph Martial Arts locations in Pella and Urbandale with the support of their family and an outstanding team of instructors.

Master White is an experienced ATA tournament judge and serves as the Regional Tournament Team Leader for Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota. He is also the Midwest Director for the Krav Maga Federation-AC, helping support the growth and development of Krav Maga instructors and schools throughout the region.

His martial arts background also includes extensive training in stand-up grappling, joint locks, and practical self-defense. He is a recognized instructor of Chin Na and Grappling through the Chinese Boxing Institute International under Joseph “Buddy” Benford.

Throughout his career, Master White has trained with respected martial arts instructors and practitioners from around the world. He brings that knowledge and experience to every program at Triumph Martial Arts, including Taekwondo, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Krav Maga, and self-defense training.

Fun Fact: Before making Triumph Martial Arts his full-time career, Master White worked professionally as a graphic artist for 15 years in the printing and apparel industries. He designs the Triumph logo, signage, banners, apparel, and other graphics, often drawing inspiration from the ideas of his family and Triumph members.
